I only advocate helmet use for my children because California law mandates it.

FWIW, I absolutely agree that helmets are good for dangerous activities (e.g. singletrack in Nisene Marks - falling is part of the fun of mountain biking, though I saw a helicopter evac of a helmet wearing mountain biker w/ head injury a few years ago : that was a pretty sickening sight).

Erik...I'm not sure how or why but....I made a comment on another blog using "Disqus" and then....my BlackBerry went beserk! Today for the first time in a week....the last "Disqus" comment came through (of around 40) along with 54 other e-mails that were trying to come through and my BB is mysteriously working...again. Coincidence?...not sure. My new BB is still on order.

I just heard a debate about whether California is a failed state... sounds like evidence for the affirmative--just sorry you have to live through it.

most companies that "go green" are just using it for a marketing ploy. Most "green" products just got the label green after people started to feel guilty about their poluting, and the products themselves didn't change, just the label. "This thick curtain is green because it helps to conserve energy in your home!" Curtains have been around for a very long time....

John, you are correct and perhaps the list should have been expanded into two lists, one of foods to avoid for health reasons and one to avoid for societal reasons.

That said, even here in California we don't have fresh local produce all the time and it very hard to try and ignore the piles of gorgeous fruit delivered f...

There's a divide in your list between things that we should avoid for our own health and things that we should avoid for, I suppose, "the general welfare." Though looking it over again, I suppose in one way or another everything on there has systemic issues, while only some are actually health issues.
