What?

Never trust anyone who can't spell 'separate' correctly.

Says Lenin: "The journalist who interviewed him has acknowledged that he said no such thing, and the paper has promised to issue a correction on its site."

They haven't published any correction yet. El-Khabar still has it as: "This incident is more serious than the 9/11 attacks on the US and those of London."

Ah, sorry, I've only just noticed that you mentioned the lack of correction in your original post. Oops.

We've all done it. I'm regularly half-way through typing up a new post when I get sudden deja vu and realise that I've blogged it before.

'This from a man whose reaction to reading Socialist Worker was to join the Socialist Workers Party.'

Brilliant!

Unless he's been posting the same boilerplate in various places, Neil Williams made those comments on my blog in relation to a post I made criticising Galloway's interview. It's still there, as is my response and another lengthy comment from himself, in turn:

http://mreugenides.blogspot.com/...oons- worse.html

As you say, the worst he could accuse me of was "taking things out of context". He did not claim that Galloway had not spoken the words.

Even if this was a misquotation, it was an entirely credible one in the light of some of the things Gorgeous has said in the past, and even his own party were unsurprised at the statement.

The indefatigable Mr Williams also posted his comments himself at Harry's place - this should be easy enough to check.

Here we go: 5.00pm. It is to be noted that he didn't make any attempt to retract - not unlike the Zionist-Algerian newspaper, in fact>

Thanks, Lachlan.

> Unless he's been posting the same boilerplate in various places ...

Looks like he has. I'd like a job like that.

If the acusations that over at Lenin's are true that you support the legalisation of child porn you vile sub-human scum.

Oo, thanks for that.

In fairness any politician of any hue would be likely to attempt to play down something stupid the leader of their party was widely reported to have said.

And notice that Neil Williams' comments didn't do a very good job of justifying the fake quote - in fact the only appalling thing he says is that the remark itself was "not out of order". The rest is just chatter about how many Muslims have died in the Iraq war, and so on. The clear implication being that what George really meant was that the War in Iraq was worse than 9/11. Not a very plausible interpretation, in fact a downright idiotic one, but he's hardly throwing his weight behind the (mis)quote. So I think all in all it's a bit harsh to say that the (mis)quote "is an accurate representation of the position of his party".

There have, as yet, been no mass denunciations of Williams's opinions on this matter by other members of the Respect Party, Galloway included.

Well obviously. They're hardly going to wish to draw attention to such things, are they?

(For the record I think George Galloway is a twat and I wouldn't vote Respect for all the tea in China.)

> In fairness any politician of any hue would be likely to attempt to play down something stupid the leader of their party was widely reported to have said.

In fairness, that sort of mindless, sheep-like groupthink is the reason that I have such contempt for most politicians of all hues. I'm not picking on Williams just because he's in Respect.

If you're really that interested, here's an RSS feed for the latest comments to this blog. Never miss another pointless argument.

Of course comments are moderated, in a common-sense sort of a way. You don't have to give your email address to post here.

If you know your HTML, you can use <a>, <b>, and <i> tags, and entities, too. If you don't, you can still use them, but with a greater sense of trepidation.

Cheers.
