I would normally curse someone like you andrew, for having me watch such an excruciating spectacle but that was, erm, energising! I would post it but people might switch off before that Kevin James guy completely humiliates himself.

It also raises an issue about how Israel was used as a silent debating chamber for Bush to attack an opponent. I mean in terms of protocol that was quite a breach. I'm listening again while "Chris" asks over and over "what did Chamberlain do?" And Kevin James is saying "it's the same thing", "he energised and he legitimised" - and chris is saying "you don't know what you are talking about Kevin". Maybe I will post it after all.

Re Voight: I, too, would be shocked if I hadn't recently read an article (In Vanity Fair, maybe a month or two ago) about the competition in 1968 between "Coming Home" and "The Deer Hunter" for best picture Oscar. According to the article, Voight has since that time done a complete 180 from his original liberal/progressive stance on many issues of the day. What does shock me is the intensity of his feelings and the wrongness. You'd think his entire family had been killed in a suicide bombing, which would at least explain his emotional state in making such frantic statements. It's just wrong.

I thought he was very deep in Deliverance but then Burt Reynolds was also in it and i think he is bigger for his Smokey and the Bandit "trilogy".(ha ha) No but Voight reminded of Malkovich and incitement to murder Galloway and Fisk, a bit arthouse, know what I mean? The actors that is, not the incitements.

But Voight came as close as one can to saying that Palestinians count for nothing not even life itself. That's not just ignorance, it's a disgrace.

I think Hitler got it about right. One day Martin Bormann informed him that a favorite artist had signed a petition put out by a Communist front group, expecting Hitler to react badly. Instead he said that artistic types have no political sense and tend to indulge their humanitarian instincts thoughtlessly. If a petition seems in line with those instincts they sign it. So he wasn't going to read anything sinister into it.

In Voight's case you need to take into consideration where he was at the time. He may simply have been extemporaneously "playing to the crowd."

The activist Sidney Lens related in his autobiography that he buttonholed actress Talula Bankhead to ask her to give a speech at a fundraiser for some cause. Bankhead was very sympathetic to the cause but was horrified at the prospect of speaking extemporaneously--she was an actress, not a politician. So Lens quickly offered to write a speech for her and the event was a big success. Jon Voight could have profitted from her example.

Yeah, I looked it up. Voight's movie was titled, "Uprising," and was first shown on our NBC network in November, 2001, just after 9/11. It was a two-parter, four hours long originally. Voight DID play Stroop. According to IMDB it has never been shown in Great Britain, or perhaps they missed it. I remember the fake Borscht Belt accents put on by the younger leads, Hank Azaria and David Schwimmer--even though they were supposedly speaking their native language instead of English.
