Easy.
Put the numbers 1 to 38 in a hat.
Draw one.
Look at the corresponding queue item. If you like it, knit it.
If you can't stand doing that one, chances are you now know deep in your heart the one you wish you'd picked instead.

I know just what you mean. I must spend half my time on Ravelry trying to cut things out of my queue so I can stop feeling guilty that they are NEVER EVER going to be cast on, as they're only in my queue because I like to have a collection of the pretty to gaze upon.

My problem with this has recently been compounded by the fact I feel more inspired to make my own designs than follow other people's. But then start to think about how I really ought to be casting on number 27 in the queue because I know someone who would just love it.

It's a vicious cycle.

Well, at least you CAN knit socks. It's a skill that has eluded me. Doesn't stop my sick obsession with sock yarn though. Thank God for lace!
