The website http://www.coalqueens.com/
isn't updated. It didn't even have the heartland festival listed.

I would also like to find out which film festivals it will be shown in 2006,and if Sarah Rush will be attending.

My parents are from Masontown (just across the river in Fayette County). I have several relatives who have worked in Fayette and Greene County mines. My cousin Helen Novasky Decher was a contestant in 1961. I'd really like to be able to purchase a copy of the film!

I am axiously awaiting to view the film as I grew up in the area and knew a lot of the girls who became Coal Queens, including Ms. Rush. I think it's great that someone actually has taken the time and honored this wonderful tradition that entertained the community for many years.

just wondering if this film will be released or if it will be shown at any more film festivals in 2006. lots of childhood memories of the king coal festival.

I came from the area and even had friends that are former participants in the pageant. The pageant was a really big deal and the Coal Festival was a good time. Are you guys going to put this out on tape or DVD? I'd definitely buy it and know I can't be the only one.

This is SO EXCITING! I represented my HS in this pageant in 2000. My father is a cola miner and mining goes far back in my family. This is so nice to see some recognition!

I was a HS Coal Queen for Mapletown H.S. in 1966 and 1st runner up to the "Queen" herself! WHAT FUN! My father was also a coal miner and I have wonderful memories of Greene County & surrounding small towns. Can't wait to get a copy! My family is going to love this as they always tease me about the title.

Am anxiously awaiting the showing of the DVD in Carmichaels. Will it be available at other venues, besides Netflix?

Our family can't wait to see this film. Both my parent's were born, raised and went to school in the town of Carmichaels, PA. My grandfather was one of the earliest coalminers who settled there in the early 1900's and our family is so proud of the heritage that came from that town. Life was simple, but people were proud. Thank you for showing this lovely town and its people.

Im from the town over, rival school, and the past coal queen rachel burack is our cheerleading coach now... how didnt i know about this? and do i have to be subscribed to Netflix to recieve it?

I've lived in Carmichaels all my life. It's pretty much Mayberry, Hazzard, Evening Shade and Wisteria all wrapped into one. I've been in and around the Coal Show happenings for years. You could almost make another documentary about the fallout and gossip surrounding this one!! It’s sad the town won’t let go of this pageant and festival, as it’s pretty much seen it’s day. I hate seeing it die slowly. The nearest operating mine is in Waynesburg. It was an absolutely wonderful place to grow up, but it needs a new direction.

I was very fortunate in that I got to view the film today. The film was AWESOME! So many memories! I grew up in Nemacolin and currently reside in Carmichaels. My father was a coal miner at the Nemacolin Mine for 48 years before he passed away. My Grandfather was a miner also. This is MY HERITAGE and I am so proud of it!

My father, grandfathers, uncles and cousins were/are coal miners. There was a day when going straight from the classroom to the mine was almost certain. There WAS a day. Most of the small clusters of coal miners homes (referred to locally as "patches") have been bought up by one of several local landlords, who meet only the minimum requiremwents in an area with little or no zoning laws. This has generated quite a blight on the area.

If you want an uplifitng, small coal town story, rent "October Sky". It's also a true story and the main character actually makes something of himself.

The Bitumious Coal Queen pageant has become nothing more than a harsh playing field for mothers laden with school-days psycho baggage, living vicariously through their daughters.

Hey James, could you please email me at kcarmichael@socal.rr.com it's re: carmichaels pa. thank you!!!
